What are brides now looking for in wedding gowns?
For the past several years, I photographed weddings where virtually every bride had something in common: The strapless wedding dress.
Things have changed in wedding fashion. Sure, I still see the strapless gown on occasion, but what a variety has evolved! “The brides today don’t want the same strapless look,” according to Krystyne Levey, manager of L&H Couture
a chic, intimate bridal boutique in Doylestown featuring high-end designer bridal gowns.
“Sleeves are back, as are ballgowns. I see a lot of Illusion, a lot of cut-outs. The spaghetti strap is in. Appliqué. Crepe is also back, which is a throwback to the ‘40’s. Do I also have brides that want the full skirt, the sweetheart neckline, high waist? The traditional dress? Sure. Decide where and when you want to get married and that will play a huge part in what you need.”
Also, a lot of brides are shying away from all white. Back in the 80’s we had that stark white. We’ve done away with that.
According to Levey, detachable trains are also back in style. “We had them in the 80’s and they were great. You didn’t need to bustle.
“What hasn’t come back are the really big puffy sleeves.”
